T N BAND
For the past twelve years, The TN Band has been playing the Los Angeles
scene, appearing at clubs, festivals, colleges, and benefits. They have appeared
at the Playboy Jazz Free Festivals three times, the Taste of Orange County, the
Santa Monica Pier Winter Series annually, Valencia Jazz and Blues Festival, Pasadena
and Santa Monica Colleges, Santa Barbara Jazz Festival, and the Park City Jazz
Festival. Tom and the band have shared stages with Branford Marsalis, Tom Scott,
Les McCann, Booker T and the MGs, the Young Dubliners, Poncho Sanchez, the Gap
Band, Gerald Wiggins, Joe Sample, Christian McBride, Rick Braun, Bony James,
Cecilia Noel, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and Billy Vera.
The band's musical mission is to spread positivism and
to make people dance. Tom says, "in indigenous cultures,
music is considered medicine, and has thepower to heal.
That's definitely been true in our lives. We play to make
people forget their troubles, break a sweat, and get in
the groove."
Tom and the band play a wide variety of roots styles,
but their "home base" is rhythm & blues.
Their live shows include a mix of classic soul, blues,
and their own funky material. Nolan is the primary songwriter
in the band. He plays harmonica, percussion, and sings
lead. David Hoyt joins him on guitar and vocals, Victor
Cisneros and Jackie Klimek on saxophones, Ms. Jade on vocals,
Scott Hitchings on keyboards, David Brown on bass and vocals,
and David Stephen Lane on drums.
Besides being a songwriter and bandleader, Tom is an educator
and an actor. He has appeared in twenty films, two television
series, and on the stage in New York and Los Angeles. Tom
has been working with adolescents for seventeen years,
and is currently teaching at the Crossroads School in Santa
Monica.
Tom's
band has three CDs to its credit. The first disc
was released late
in 1996. It is entitled "Don't
Wanna Die Workin'," and is a collection of ten
songs written by Nolan. The second CD, released in
1999, is called "Everyday Hero." It was
recorded at the renowned Oceanway Studios in Hollywood,
and
features nine new originals. On the second CD, David
Hoyt shares in the songwriting credit. The band is
very excited about its third CD, "Life Is Good," which
was released in February of 2001. It captures the
breadth and spirit of the TNB experience. The band
is currently
in the studio working on their fourth effort.
The T N Band is a grass roots effort that
has taken hold. It started in a garage, was cultivated
in clubs, and has moved on to the festival stage.
They have entertained for thousands of people, and
they always leave their audiences dancing. |
